Steps
a. Darken the room: For dilating pupils, to see the red reflex easier.
Use an ophthalmoscope: with the lens power typically set at 0 or matched to the examiner's refractive error.
b. Shine the light: The light is directed at the patient's pupils from a distance of about (30-45 cm).
c. Observe the reflex: Look for bright, reddish-orange glow in the pupil.
d. Assess for asymmetry and abnormalities
4. Two DD for Pallor?
Leucocoria or white reflex DD: Cataract, retinoblastoma
